Barnes & Noble Nook Reader Review - Is the Nook E-Reader Better Than Kindle?

I spend a lot of time browsing shops in Orlando because, well, that's where I live, and book stores are high on my list of fun places to shop and while away some hours. The other day I was meeting my mom for lunch and decided to drop in to Barnes & Noble since I don't have one close to my house. As I was checking out with my purchases, the cashier mentioned that the store would be debuting the new nook reader which is an electronic reading device "gadget."

barnes and noble leather bound books

This caught my attention because I had just been considering putting the Kindle on my Christmas list this year. You know how it is when you log into Amazon, you always see the advertisements for their electronic reader right in your face, and eventually you become brainwashed where you suddenly decide you MUST have one of those (insert name of new gadget here). That's what happened to me with Kindle I think. And I'll be honest with you, I really didn't know a whole lot about it.

BARNES AND NOBLE

So when I heard about the nook reader that B&N is about to unveil, I asked the check-out lady a few questions and then when I got home I decided to check it out on the website. I was pleasantly surprised to see that it actually appears to have more features than Kindle.

So here's the lowdown. They both have 6-inch screen displays so they are easy to read, you can adjust the text size with both devices, and both of them feature 2 GB memory, ability to browse and shop for ebooks, speakers, headphone jack, rechargeable battery, comparable weight, software updates, quick page turn by hard key, synchronized last page read between devices, and ability to read your books on multiple devices.

But, here's what you get on the nook reader that is not available on the "other reader." Color touch screen, touch control and navigation ability, library view by book cover, Wi-Fi, free Wi-Fi in Barnes & Noble stores, expandable memory, more than a million titles, more than half a million free ebooks, exclusive content at B&N, directly load and read PDF's (very helpful), synchronized notes between devices, "LendMe technology" which is where you can share books between nook, iPhone, iPod touch, Blackberry, PC, and Mac, and a replaceable battery.

Sounds good, right? I was impressed. In addition, and this is really key, you can go into Barnes and Noble and try out the nook in person. You can hold it in your hands. Studies have shown that this is key in allowing buyers to make a decision on a purchase. You can sell a lot more when the person can touch as well as see.

I have to say I'm really interested in the nook reader and to be honest, I think it really wins in the head-to-head battle with Kindle by a landslide. Of course, I have not tried out the actual device yet but it will be in stores at the end of November (so I was told). So if you are considering an E-reader you should check out the nook when it becomes available, either for yourself or maybe as a gift.

The Amazon Kindle 3G Vs the Barnes & Noble Nook - Who Will Win the Holiday Shopping War?

If you have been considering an e-book reader for yourself or as a gift, the choice between the Amazon Kindle 3G with Wi-Fi and the Barnes & Noble Nook will be a tough one. The reviews show that both products are terrific e-Readers but it is the differences and your personal preferences that will make your decision. Priced at 9 for the Kindle 3G and 9 for the Nook your decision will be based on your choice of features.

barnes and noble stores

Both units have 6 inch diagonal E-Ink electronic displays, with 600 x 800 pixel resolution. The weights are comparable, the Kindle at 10.2 ounces and the Nook at 12.1 ounce. And the actual unit sizes are 8″ x 5.3 for the Kindle and 7.7″ x 4.9 for the Nook. Both have an internal memory of 2GB but the Nook has an expandable micro SD slot which would only be necessary if you think you need to store more than the 1,500 books that the 2GB will hold.

BARNES AND NOBLE

Battery life is also similar, 10 days or 7,500 page turns, with the wireless off. And both completely recharge between 3.5 and 4 hours. Both units can be used as an MP3 player, the Kindle with built in stereo speakers and the Nook with built-in mono speakers. Both also have headphone jacks.

Here is where your preferences will make the difference. The Amazon Kindle has a keyboard at the bottom, it does not display in color but has a 16-level gray-scale that does a great job with images. The Barnes & Noble Nook has a color touch screen at the bottom. So do you prefer typing on a keyboard or touch screen?

And here is the big one - the Kindle 3G with Wi-Fi uses Amazon's Whispernet through Sprint's 3G high-speed data network for U.S. wireless coverage. No charge involved. And there is expanded coverage available if you are traveling internationally. The Nook has free wireless via AT&T, and free Wi-Fi in all Barnes & Noble stores. If you intend on down loading books while traveling service from these providers would have to be available.

The Kindle has an additional feature, Text-to-Speech. You can switch from reading a book to listening to it with the audio book reader. You can enlarge the print with both units. The Kindle's screen is less reflective than the other e-book readers which eliminates the problems that reading off a screen in the sunshine can create. The Nook's screen is ranked better than most of the competitors but not better than the Kindle. Where will you be reading?

So here we are. What are your preferences? What type of keyboard, and whose wireless carrier do you prefer. Both the Kindle 3G and the Nook e-Book readers have great reviews and thousands of books available. Good luck with your choices and happy shopping.

The Keys to a Barnes and Noble Book Signing

Dan Poynter wrote in Successful Nonfiction that authors should never host autograph parties. Instead of merely signing their books, the thing to do was offer "mini-seminars." In an August 27th, 2006 interview with Tee Morris for "The Survival Guide to Writing Fantasy," Annie Hololob, Community Relations Manager for the Harrisonburg, VA Barnes & Noble, confirms the value of making your book signing into an event. (Tee himself apparently has a habit of staging sword fights during his book signings, which definitely livens things up.)If you want to have an event at a Barnes & Noble, the Community Relations Manager is the person to talk to. This is the person who knows whether the store's customers are the right market for your book, or whether you'd do better at a store in a different city. (My local Barnes & Noble, for instance, doesn't even have author events, just a children's story time.) This is the person whose good side you want to get on.

barnes and noble nook color

There are two important things you need before you start assembling your press kit and cultivating the CRM at your local Barnes & Noble, however. Without them, there's no way the store can carry your books. Large chain bookstores have to operate by certain rules in order to stay in business, and those rules may exclude you and your book for reasons that have nothing to do with your merits as a writer.

BARNES AND NOBLE

Distribution

In order for BN to order, stock, and sell your books, they have to be available through a wholesaler or distributor such as Ingram or Baker & Taylor--one BN already has a relationship with. That means BN can buy the book at a wholesale price, usually 40-60% off the cover price, without going to extra trouble to special-order it. If your book is traditionally published, there should be no problem with this. One of the reasons for choosing to go with a major publisher or established small press is that they are already BN Vendors of Record. The traditionally self-published, those like Dan Poynter who start their own publishing companies, can become Vendors of Record by filling out the BN Publisher Information Form.

The authors who run into real trouble in the distribution department are those with POD books. These books may be good-looking and high quality. They may even be available through Baker & Taylor or Ingram. But unless ordered in very high quantities, they are offered only for the retail price. BN's standard order when dealing with a new publisher is two copies of every title. Even an order of 30-50 books for a signing isn't going to provide enough of a profit margin to make it worth the bookstore's while. And because Print on Demand books are literally printed only when ordered, each copy is much more expensive to produce than a comparable mass-produced book.

Returns

The other thing that keeps POD books-and their authors-out of chain stores like Barnes & Noble is the lack of a returns policy. Bookstores expect to be able to return all unsold books to a publisher, and not to pay the publisher for any of the books until after they sell. Unsold books aren't even returned intact: the covers get ripped off and they're sent away to be pulped. (I kid you not. I was horrified to learn this, even after reading all those warnings about not buying books without covers.)

POD houses don't warehouse books and can't provide that kind of returns policy, and very few self-published authors are going to want to. But no matter how barbaric a practice pulping is, it's a fact of life at all major book outlets, and Barnes & Noble didn't invent it. Nor does a Community Relations Manager have the power to bend the rules about this, however flexible s/he may be about the form your signing takes if you can meet the store's requirements.

Alternatives

If you're a self-published or POD author and touring the major chain bookstores is something you can't live without, you can try to interest a traditional publisher in your book, though you need to make sure that you really own the book in its current form before you do this. (Most POD houses lay claim to the final, formatted version of your book, though the content remains yours.)

Or you can skip Barnes & Noble altogether and hold your book events elsewhere. Independent bookstores are often in a better position than large chains to take a chance on an author, though they, too, need to be able to buy the books at a low enough price to make a profit. Public libraries are almost always willing to accept the donation of a book or two and host a reading.

And, of course, if you make your living as a speaker, back-of-room sales may be your best bet and an opportunity to take advantage of the plus side of self-publishing and POD: getting to keep a far greater percentage of the book's retail price.

Book Signing Resources

Unfortunately, it appears that the 2005 episodes of The Survival Guide to Writing Fantasy podcast are no longer available on the show blog, but should you be able to track them down, you want episode 003 and episode 021.

The New Barnes and Noble NOOKcolor in Review

If you are looking for a full-color eReader with the ability to display color materials as well as standard black and white, then the NOOKcolor is definitely an eReader you should consider. Perfect for the avid reader who enjoys magazines as well as novels, or the student looking for a more compact and portable manner for accessing their textbooks, the NOOKcolor comes with many additional features.

barnes and noble stores

Readers have asked for a better touch screen interface and the designers of the device heeded the call. Unlike the original Nook, the 7 inch screen is also a very good touch screen interface. The interface is highly responsive, although it can be disrupted by fingerprints. I recently discovered this during a game of Sodoku, which happens to come pre-installed.

BARNES AND NOBLE

The NOOKcolor's organization is automatic and most readers will be happy with the library features that catalog books according to title, author or genre.

Speaking of games, many of the ads for the device stress the fact that it has an Android operating system. This is true, but perhaps a bit misleading. The Android OS is a hybrid of Android 2.1, meaning that the device cannot take advantage of the Android Marketplace or any of the previously designed applications. There is a developer toolkit available and Barnes and Noble says applications will be available soon.

This is not a downfall for those who intent to use the eReader as it was intended, to read books. The interface and display are excellent for anyone who wants a high quality LCD display that offers brilliant color and crisp text. Of course, LCD screens are linked to eyestrain and are not effective for use in bright sunshine. Also, battery life is known to be affected by LCD screens. The device offers excellent battery life, however.

The device does not have built in 3G and relies on a WiFi connection to enable users to purchase or download books to the device. There is a built in beta version web browser that provides access to the internet where a WiFi connection is available. Other eReaders come with built in 3G networking, but with the wide availability of wireless networks it is not really necessary.

Barnes And Noble Nook - A Patient's Perspective

The Nook reader that my father-in-law has is the original Nook, not the NookColor. I sat down with him to find out first if he was using it and what features were helpful or not helpful in his desire to keep reading.

barnes and noble locations

1. Font Size

BARNES AND NOBLE

The Barnes and Noble Nook offers 6 font sizes. My father-in-law has it set at the largest font size which is sufficient for him to be able to read comfortably.

2. Anti-Glare Screen

I do a lot of reading on my Apple iPad so when I read from the Nook, I was amazed at the difference that an anti-glare screen provides. There is so much less strain on the eyes. The e-ink they use is like reading from a paper - there is no glare and this electronic book reader can be read in bright light.

3. Contrast

The letters and words were very crisp and clear. Contrast can be adjusted to one of 16 different levels of a gray scale.

4. Navigation

One would think that the touch screen navigation would be an easy way to use the ebook reader. However my father-in-law still had trouble finding his books and library even after several times of reviewing this with him. As with all electronic book readers, the Nook will automatically go to the last page that was read. So as long as he was reading just that one book and not trying to find his other books, he was fine.

5. Screen Size

When I showed him my Apple iPad and had him read from this ebook reader, he did prefer the larger screen size. The Apple iPad screen is 9.7" diagonal and the original Nook is 6" diagonal.

6. Return Policy

My father-in-law will be keeping his Nook. He can read from it which is exciting, but will he, I am not sure. The return policy at this time with Barnes and Noble is that it can be returned within 14 days - so if you are buying it for someone else be sure to have them try it right away or even better take them to a store to try it.

The new ebook reader technology is great for those with macular degeneration, but how much the older senior population will adapt to it for their reading is uncertain. To learn more about the features of this electronic book reader go to:

A Comprehensive Guide to the Barnes & Noble E-book Reader Nook

Amazon Kindle is one of the dominating products in e-book readers' market. But with the launch of Barnes & Noble e-book reader Nook one this is sure that Amazon Kindle is going to get a tough competition. These two and other e-book readers available on the market provide more or less the same features to the users. Some of the features which a user normally looks for before buying an e-book reader are - wireless connectivity, internal storage, Internet access etc. all these features are available in Barnes & Noble Nook, but there are some additional ones available too. These additional features provided by Barnes & Noble Nook are the main reasons to make it a huge success in a short duration of time. Here we will talk about some of those additional features.

barnes and noble nook color

The best feature offered by Barnes & Noble Nook is its touch sensitive color display. Like Amazon Kindle Nook also uses e-link display technology to give its readers a real time experience. But the input method available in Nook is a touch screen. You can type your bookmarks using this on screen keyboard and being a gadget freak like me you are definitely going to enjoy this feature. Another feature which Nook offers is its WiFi receiver. This feature certainly fills in the gaps in the service provided by the AT&T. To use this WiFi facility all you need to do is to type in your network provider's name and the encryption method used. All these information can be typed in using the on screen keyboard only.

BARNES AND NOBLE

As already said Barnes & Noble Nook also offers the features available in most of the e-book readers. But being priced at 9 and having some more advanced features made it a huge success in the market. During the first month of launch, Barnes & Noble Nook went out of stock in many stores just like Amazon Kindle did. This clearly explains how users are taking this e-book reader in to account. Whatever new features Barnes & Noble releases in future, Nook is going to stay in the market for a while.

Barnes and Noble Nook - New Campaign

Barnes & Noble, the worlds largest book seller today, introduced a new advertising campaign for its Nook Electronic E-Book Reader. The Commercial was developed by Barnes & Noble with Merkley and Partners, an Omnicom company. This marks the first television commercial Barnes and Noble has done in over a decade. This campaign is not limited to the television though, it will be followed up by radio, print and online advertising.

The Television campaign is entitled "My Story" which portrays a literature loving female customer from childhood to adulthood and the seminal stories that fostered her love of books from tangible form to now digital format. The closing images reinforce the ability to "take your story wherever you want it to go" as the woman in the spot sits on the beach reading on NOOK's crisp and clear E Ink screen after using the device's fast, wireless access to find her next great read from more than a million digital titles.

BARNES AND NOBLE

The Television commercial then closes by encouraging viewers to find Nook at "your local Barnes & Noble," online or at Best Buy retail locations where the Nook is displayed starting this week.

Sasha Norkin the Vice President of Marking with Barnes and Noble announced "Many of our customers have practically grown up in Barnes & Noble bookstores, browsing, buying and reading the books that have enriched their lives. Challenges Faced By Barnes And Noble

Barnes and Noble's recent announcement that the company plans to sell itself brings a lot of things into perspective. It serves as a wake up call for investors that the market for physical books is waning and that the company will have to look for different markets in the future if they hope to keep profitable. The question then becomes, what should Barnes and Noble do in order to emerge a stronger and more successful company?

barnes and noble nook

The first thing to realize is that selling themselves does not mean they are going bankrupt. The company will continue to support the Nook and will still have their set of book stores and college textbook stores available for customers. Instead, it's like changing management, the company will have new people at the head directing their future endeavours.

BARNES AND NOBLE

When looking how to reinvigorate Barnes and Noble, the first thing they have to do is improve their storefronts. Currently, their retail locations are viewed as a liability, when in reality, the company needs to leverage these as an asset. Use the stores to give people the perception of a company that interacts with their community. Start hosting book clubs and writers groups actively in Barnes and Noble, getting people interested in going to the book store and being a part of its community.

Second, push the Nook. Right now, Barnes and Noble is trying a price war with Amazon and it's not going to work. Amazon runs the Internet for all intents and purposes and it has given them a huge advantage. Barnes and Noble needs more ads out there putting the Nook in peoples minds. They need to differentiate the experience, to make it feel like something besides another Kindle. They need to make the affiliate program easier to use to get more people involved and promoting the Nook.

In the end, Barnes and Noble needs to become a fighter. The company seems to be rolling over on its back waving the white flag. They need to show that they've got good potential and market it to the potential consumers. Once they're in the peoples minds again, they'll soon find themselves back in their pockets as well.

The Nook Compared to Kindle 2 - How Does Barnes & Noble's eBook Reader Fare?

Do you know that it's not actually Amazon who first released an e-book reader? It was Sony. However, the former is more popular because it's loaded with better features and design. For months, Kindle took the lead-until the Nook came along. Today this product from Barnes & Noble has been dubbed the ultimate Kindle killer. In the question of the Nook compared to Kindle 2, how does the Nook fare?

barnes and noble book store

Let's start with the physical attributes. In terms of size, Amazon's Kindle 2 is a little smaller than the Nook. It's also lighter at 10 ounces. If portability is an issue for you, you may raise some concerns with Nook.

BARNES AND NOBLE

Nevertheless, you won't really be ashamed to carry your Nook anywhere you go. It looks very stylish and sleek compared to Kindle 2, which appears to be too stiff for some people's taste.

Both the Nook and Kindle 2 come with an E-ink screen, which means you can have full control over the size of the texts. You can make it smaller or bigger, and glare is drastically reduced.

They also differ in terms of memory and the number of books you can save. Interestingly, both can hold 1,500 e-books simultaneously-but there's a catch. The Nook actually has its own microSD slot, which you can use if you want to download and store more books.

If these weren't enough, you can actually share the titles to your friends and family for 2 weeks. This feature is still in its beta mode, but it's surely one of the best features you can find in B&N's Nook.

When it comes to battery life, there's no doubt that Kindle 2 is the sure winner. If you are a superhuman, you can actually read books in Kindle for 14 consecutive days without recharging. The battery life of Nook is just between 7 and 10 days.

Because Barnes & Noble has been around quite longer than Amazon, it has one of the biggest collections of books to choose from. So far, it has over 1 million titles and 500,000 worth of electronic e-books, which are given for free. Amazon only has around 420,000, though their collection is more varied and suggests e-books based on what the customers like to read.

You can see the Nook gives the Kindle a run for best ebook reader. But are the few features that set the Nook apart from the Kindle 2 enough to choose it instead? That's for you to decide.

A Full Color Nook eReader by Barnes and Noble

The company anticipates it is going to become a popular stocking stuffer for Christmas as it is said to possess far more game titles, ebooks (surely convenient with regard to kids books to utilize its color abilities), magazines and many others. In keeping with this, an electronic Newsstand is on the way for magazine and newspaper subscriptions. Just so that you are completely satisfied, a 14-day trial period will be available.

barnes and noble book store

This kind of tactic is possibly responding to the iPad entering into the eReader niche. The colored eReader is also believed to have got its very own app store, web browsing and music streaming. This bold move by Barnes and Noble has surely upped the ante for eReader capabilities.

BARNES AND NOBLE

The device is planned to be launched mid-November just in time for viewing before Christmas time. In our judgment it certainly is an excellent response to the iPad but still remains true to it as an eReader at heart. There are enhanced and extra functions but its main thrust continues to be the reading experience and it did not get lost along the way trying to become an iPad wannabe. When speculating on a brand new device it is always a balanced exercise when it comes to price tag and capabilities. Here Barnes and Noble will not have wanted its would-be purchasers to consider just adding a couple of more dollars on an iPad. Instead they still wanted them to buy an eReader with Nook features.

Just to provide you with a little something to think about, the new Nook Color will have a 7 inch backlit touchscreen display capable of 16 million colors. IPS or In-plane switching permits approximately 178 degrees viewing angle. Therefore even if it's tipped a bit the display will not instantly disappear on you. Additionally the new Nook Color will have an impressive 8 GB built-in storage which means you actually might not make use of the microSD slot for its expandable memory. Wi-Fi functionality has stopped being a premium capability in the eReader industry and consumers expect to get it as industry-standard - the Nook Color doesn't disappoint there. As for the 3G capability of its other high end competitors the response has to be no! It will definitely have a web browser and the trademark Lend-me book function that allows the book buyer to loan a book to one friend for a limited time frame. It can also be utilized in either portrait or landscape mode. We are expecting that the battery life will not be comparable to the days or even weeks of battery life in non-color eReaders unless different technology is unveiled, so like everyone we await the battery life specifications anxiously.

Insiders also say that the company is reaching out to different software makers for the device's "Nookextras" and that Pandora is already part of the group. What other surprises await? Stay tuned!

The NOOK Color Tablet From Barnes and Noble - Review

In today's age, there is nothing that is impossible. Once upon a time, the concept of inks and books seemed fantastic. Now we have reached such a time and age that the concept of paper is becoming obsolete. With the use of cutting edge technology applied to e-readers there is literally no difference between an actual book and an e-book. Most people nowadays prefer an e-book over an actual book because of the multitude of advantages that are offered.

barnes and noble ereader

Not only can e-readers store an amazing quantity of books, they are also environment friendly. While printing books, it is an established fact that a large number of trees are felled needlessly. This has a direct contribution to environmental pollution. With the use of e-readers one can do one's part in saving the environment. There is no longer any need to hunt through book stores for the material that you have been looking for. Everything is available to you at the click of a mouse.

BARNES AND NOBLE

The NOOK Color Tablet from Barnes and Noble is one such e-reader that was one of the first in bringing technology to the world of books. This device has many features that make it a great buy, at a very competitive price. Although there are some better models in the market today, the NOOK retains its reputation as good value for money.

When the NOOK was launched in the market it immediately caused quite a stir. This was because of the plethora of features that it had to offer and the advanced functionality of the device. One of the most astounding features of the NOOK Color tablet is the 7" display screen that it offers. The design of the NOOK is what makes it truly unique. The resolution of the NOOK simply blows the mind as it provides up to 16 million colors that are clear and bright, ideal for any magazine.

On the downside, the screen used is LCD rather than electronic ink technology. This may cause your eyes to tire from hours of looking at the screen. Though eyestrain is usually not an issue, but if you are apprehensive about the strain you may want to go with the original NOOK. The wide viewing angle is also designed to make readers comfortable. This eliminates glare and allows you to read both indoors and outdoors without any trouble.

The NOOK Color also offers a huge selection of reading material. It may be hard to believe but almost 2 million books can be accessed with this device to say nothing of newspapers, magazines and blogs. There will be something for everyone, right fro children's books to older classics.

The specialty of the NOOK Color tablet is its compatibility with reading magazines. Magazines are as vibrant and real as actual magazines so that you no longer need to order your favorite magazines.

This E-reader has an in-built memory of 8 GB. This lets you store almost 6000 books. The internal rechargeable battery only adds to the allure of this device since you can read up to 8 hours with this device.

Nook Review - Barnes and Noble Nook Ups the Cool Factor

Launched in October of 2009, the Barnes and Noble Nook was seen as a possible candidate to unseat the Amazon Kindle from its dominance in the ereader industry. What has it got that makes it a serious challenger? This Nook review explores the many features of this ebook reader.

barnes and noble color nook

Size and Display

BARNES AND NOBLE

First off, the basic specs. The Nook's surface dimensions are fairly standard. It is 7.7 inches in length, 4.9 inches in width, 0.5-inch thick, and weighs 11.2 ounces. It is roughly about the same size as the 2nd generation Kindle - only thicker and a bit heavier. The device also comes with a 6-inch e-ink display with 16 shades of gray, and a number of choices for font type and size.

But perhaps what gives it a wow factor that's not found on most ebook readers today is its 3.5-inch capacitive color touchscreen. Located just below the e-ink display, the LCD screen replaces the standard keyboard and buttons, used for making ebook selections and navigating within the ereader and the text itself.

Other Value-Added Features

The Nook is equipped with 2GB of internal storage and a micro-SD expansion slot so it's easy to add more memory as the need arises. It also comes with a replaceable lithium ion battery, 3G connection through the AT&T network, WiFi connectivity, MP3 player, speakers, and built-in dictionary.

Other Nook features completely unique from other ebook readers are the book lending and store browsing capabilities. As the name implies, book lending refers to being able to lend out an ebook in your library to another ereader user for a 14-day period. In-store browsing, on the other hand, means having the option to browse full ebooks at no cost in brick-and-mortar Barnes & Noble outlets.

Some Issues

This Nook review won't be complete if we don't mention some of the concerns expressed by current Nook owners. One is the device's lack of web browsing feature despite its WiFi connectivity. Another serious concern is the Nook's short battery life. Barnes & Noble says it could last about 7 to 10 days with the WiFi deactivated, but for actual users, 4 to 5 days is more like it.

With the Nook's advanced features and Barnes & Noble's innovative services, the Nook could have a big impact on the ebook reader market. But as this Nook review points out, there are still a number of improvements that have to be made, for the device to really take off in a big way.

eReader Review - The Nook From Barnes and Noble Now With Wi-Fi and 3G

Why don't we quickly introduce the Barnes and Noble Nook Wi-Fi for you. At just 9 this device sports the 6 inch E Ink display screen in addition to a color Lcd. It has a 1.3 Gigabyte internal memory compared to the current 1 GB average among the other eReaders but its memory is expandable so no worries right now there. It weighs a bit more as compared to other devices at 11.6 ounce, most of the competition are way below that at 9 or 8 oz. Additionally there is a more expensive model priced at 9, which adds 3g to the mix. Instantly you can already learn to appreciate that for the price the device will be pretty good value for money. Visually the Nook originally is a mixture of two colors, battleship-gray and off-white however if that does not float your boat then you might change it by using different tinted backs for those that like more color in their lifestyles. One of Nook's trademark characteristics is a set of screens: one is the fundamental E Ink display and the other the LCD color touch screen that is Android-powered.

Like the Kindle, the Nook is a system as opposed to simply a device, efficient at easily browsing and making one-click acquisitions and for downloading through Barnes & Noble's vast store of ebooks, newsprint as well as periodicals. What's more, the Nook's Wi-Fi connects automatically to allow you to read free excerpts from just about any ebook if you are sipping a latte at your favorite B&N store. You can also lend or borrow books at no cost, for up to 14 days. Based upon the book you're perusing, the Nook can show text in as much as 16 different different languages. For travelers, the Nook has an airplane mode that allows you to turn off 3G and Wi-Fi while traveling by air, so as not to interfere with navigation equipment. The readability factor of the Nook goes over and above other devices with 16 diverse shades of gray, 3 sorts of fonts and 5 different sizes. If we do the statistics there it would certainly end up being a bunch of options. I'm sure you can find one that's ideal match for you. Also another cool way to customize the device is by installing virtually any image via USB and assign it as your screensaver.

BARNES AND NOBLE

To the downside, it's a bit slow when it turns on and unlike some other ereaders you can't rotate the text...which is ok I suppose since a regular publication does not do that however it's odd they omitted this option. Internet browsing is also quite slow. The touch screen can also be a mite challenging so if you plan to use the virtual keyboard keep it to a minimum. What a lot of buyers value, because other eBook stores don't allow it, is you can loan or be lent ebooks with others that own a Nook. Unfortunately it's a one-time deal therefore keep that for your favorite bestest buddy!

Amazon Kindle Vs Barnes and Noble Nook

With so many new electronic gadgets coming out, many consumers are confused about the difference between similar devices. The explosive popularity of e-book readers particularly raises the question of which is best. For under 0, the two most prominent are Amazon Kindle and Barnes and Noble Nook. Although other readers are available, these two being from large companies, have monopolized the market in their price range. The recent challenge of the iPad has opened the door to tough competition, but if you just want a small, light weight and affordable e-reader, Kindle and Nook still hold great appeal.

barnes and noble nook

E-readers are more than just a fad. More and more, people are turning to e-readers as a replacement for their printed counterparts. No more ink on your hands or having to bring in the paper when the weather is bad.

BARNES AND NOBLE

Having come out first, Amazon Kindle has several advantages over Nook. Kindle has a real keyboard and is easier to navigate than Nook. Moreover, Kindle has crisper text for easier reading, weighs two ounces less and even outlasts the battery life of Nook by four days! The Kindle screen is also well suited for reading even in bright sunshine.

Despite these great features, Kindle is not without its limitations. If you're a big gamer for example, Nook would certainly be a better way to go. Moreover, Nook provides more free options and allows e-book sharing among friends for 14 days. Nook is also a good alternative to the significantly higher priced iPad. Although even Nook cannot compete with all of iPad's features, at well less than half the price, it provides a good value for those looking beyond basic e-reader functionality.

Both Kindle and Nook support a wide range of e-books. Although Amazon Kindle still supports more, both provide great entertainment and a means for exercising your brain more than television.

In the end, what it really comes down to is personal preference. While some may prefer the extra bells and whistles and slightly more slender feel of the Nook, others will go with the easier reading and superior navigation control of the Kindle. Although Nook may outdo Kindle in the gaming department, for true e-book reading, Kindle still out-shines its closest competitor.

Why should you buy the Barnes and Noble Nook?

BARNES AND NOBLE

Convenience.

There's nothing more convenient than being able to take my favorite books with me wherever I go and have access to them anytime I want. My e-reader saves a lot of space in my house and is also a great thing to have on vacations because I can read my favorite books without having to take them all with me in a big book bag.

The Nook is a great e-reader because I have a great bookstore at my fingertips 24/7 and I have the ability to download over 2 million books. This e-reader can hold up to 1,500 books so I will almost never run out of storage to download new books that I find each month. Best of all, if I ever reach the 1,500 book limit on my Nook all I have to do is insert a memory card and I have more space available.

Awesome Features

The Barnes and Noble Nook has an e-ink screen which is cool because it's just like reading the printed page of a book and best of all I can read my Nook outside even in bright sunlight and not have to worry about the glare from sunlight that I have to deal with if I'm using my laptop outside.

This e-reader has a long battery life and I can read for up to 10 days without having to recharge it. This is great if I ever go on a long plane flight I can have confidence that my Nook wont die on me after only a couple of hours.

One of the coolest things that I like about the Nook is that it remembers the last page that I read in whatever book I'm currently reading and it's syncs with my other devices so if I want to read my Nook books on my iPad or Android Phone I can pick up where I left off without having to find my last place.

Organization

Nook is also awesome because they offer a new feature called 'my shelves' that enables you to sort all of your books under category so you find them easily the next time you want to go back and read them.

I also love Nook because I can password protect it so unauthorized users can read my books without my approval.

Some other cool things that I love about Nook are it's LendMe Technology that let's me lend my favorite books with my friends for up to 14 days. I also love the color navigation panel, WiFi access and so much more. There's lots to love about the Nook!

To buy the Barnes & Noble Nook on sale please visit your local Barnes & Noble store or use your favorite search engine to find the Nook on sale. Many websites are offering great sales on the Nook right now and will save you time and money.

Barnes and Noble: A Buy or Sell?

As Amazon recently reported its quarterly results, which, not only did I predict right on, but surprised many other experts and analysts awaiting a more negative outcome, one of its competitors, Barnes and Noble (BKS), which typically utilizes similar methods in achieving its respective businesses will be reporting earnings shortly as well. With such similar trends and data, you, as a shareholder of this stock should expect to gain similar capital after this recognized bookstore reports its earnings in about two weeks. While the parallelism is perceived as obvious, the truth may actually be a bit surprising.

barnes and noble locations

In the short term, you should see a very similar trend to what Amazon is currently doing. While I cannot be sure that Barnes and Noble will report results that will boost the share price in the same way it did to Amazon, I have a good feeling that because both corporations are very similar and have reported very comparable trends in terms of share price growth over the last five years, that come November 16th, you should see a nice gain in your capital if you own a piece of this company. Looking at a more detailed approach, like Amazon, Barnes and Noble has posted pretty solid fundamentals during the past two years. It's true that margins have fallen, but a lot that can be attributed to poor investing and financing fundamentals instead of the more important operational numbers. What I also see as a positive for Barnes and Noble is how it continuously has beaten earnings over the past four quarters. While such may be common to other stocks, with an EPS estimate for this quarter of only negative 0.04, I absolutely, with the advancement of consumer spending and sentiment, coupled with good economic data reported during this quarter, believe that Barnes and Noble will handily beat expectations on the bottom line. Another positive to keep in note, is that while the economy may be slowing a bit in terms of more institutional factors such as in housing, in terms of the consumer, with the recent report that the unemployment rate is at its lowest point in over five years, consumers are going to have more discretionary income to spend, which should push earning numbers even farther for Barnes and Noble over the next few quarters, especially with the Christmas holiday season approaching. The other important indicator that I like from Barnes and Noble is its P/E ratio. Compared to its other competitors of Books-A-Million, Borders, and even Amazon, Barnes and Noble has the lowest P/E ratio out of these respective competitors signaling an undervalued stock ready to possibly break a 52 week high. If are not a shareholder of this company, I would strongly recommend purchasing shares before earnings are released.

BARNES AND NOBLE

However, with such promise and optimism comes a catch. Yes, it is true that Barnes and Noble is underperforming but in excellent position to excel in the short run. However, in the long run I would not share a similar sentiment. As the nature of Barnes and Noble is a high price selling book store, the reason I argued that the share price may be a good bargain now is because of the current economic situation. When consumers have more jobs and higher incomes, they tend to spend more on luxury goods such as books for pleasure. However, once, and it will happen soon, this economic condition reverses into a slower economic growth state, do not expect earnings from Barnes and Noble to resemble what you may see in the coming months. As a slower economy approaches with the prospect that this company is very volatile in terms of its share price, do not feel optimistic that you will increase your capital gains very fast. Truthfully, around April to about June time frame of 2007, I would actually start selling most of my shares of Barnes and Noble for the reason I mentioned above, coupled with the seasonal displacement stocks usually have during this time.

Thus, while Barnes and Nobles shows excellent signs of producing a glamorous quarter in the next few weeks, do not be too complacent if you are a long term investor. I say this because more than likely, once Barnes and Noble hits a new 52 week high in the coming months, do not expect such growth to sustain into next year simply due to the inevitable but ephemeral and cyclical nature of the economy. In the short term, however, I absolutely would advocate purchasing shares of this company, if you haven't already, because there is still money to be made in this current bull market.
